About the Course
The Gas Technician 1 program offered at the Niagara & Halton Skilled Trades Academy adheres the official TSSA Gas Technician 1 curriculum, preparing students for the TSSA G1 certification exam.
The Gas Technician certification 1 is considered the highest level of gas technician licensing, allowing you to work on equipment over 400,000 Btuh. Training is delivered through classroom lectures and practical hands-on learning to provide the students with the skills they need to succeed both on the certification exam and in the field. Evaluation is conducted through written and practical assignments and tests.
Niagara & Halton Skilled Trades Academy is a TSSA approved examination centre for the G3, G2 and G1 licensing examinations.
This program does not require approval under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.

Career Description
A Gas Technician 1 license allows individuals to work on natural gas and propane equipment over 400,000 Btuh. This type of equipment will typically be found in large commercial / industrial applications. A Gas Technician 1 license is the highest level of Gas Technician licensing and means you have to limitations on the size of equipment you can work on.
Admission Requirements
All applicants intent on upgrading to a G1 certificate must meet the requirements set out in section 5 of Ontario Regulation 215/01. In addition, the applicant shall be the holder of a valid G2 certificate. The applicant shall have worked as a gas technician 2 within the scope of a G2 certificate for at least 2 years or 4,000 hours of which at least 500 hours must have been on systems with an input greater than 400,000 Btuh, under the direct supervision of a person holding a G1 certificate.
The applicant shall submit a completed declaration of work experience form, a photocopy of supervising certificate holder’s G1 certificate, and proof of work experience as per TSSA Form No. FS 09161.

Certification
Successful completion of the Gas Technician 1 program grants TSSA G1 certification exam eligibility. The TSSA exam will be held at our location at the end of the training program.
