The Niagara & Halton Skilled Trades Academies are registered as a Private Career College under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.
Private Career Colleges offer an alternative education to what is provided through public Universities and Colleges. A Private Career College is a privately owned college that by law must be registered and must have their programs approved by the Superintendent of Private Career Colleges. These schools offer specialized programs through which students earn certificates or diplomas. Private Career College programs range from business, health sector, and the skilled trades. Private Career College is ideal for students who require highly specific and specialized skills in order to join the workforce or students who have already completed academic qualifications and wish to enhance their practical skills prior to entering the workforce. Compared to public Universities and Colleges, Private Career College programs are significantly shorter. For the skilled trades specifically, training in a traditional trade school in Ontario can take up to 3 years to complete. At the Skilled Trades Academies, students can complete their training with both G3 and G2 certifications in just 17 weeks, entering the workforce as qualified gas technicians. Most College and University programs require extra courses and research in addition to the training needed to become a gas technician. At the Skilled Trades Academy, our focus is on hands-on student training, delivering the required knowledge to be successful on the job.
Private Career Colleges see 11% higher graduation rate than public Universities and Colleges.
On average, Universities and Colleges have a graduation rate of 66.7%. Registered Private Career Colleges see a 77.2% graduation rate, an 11% difference. This difference in graduation rate is likely due to a number of factors, such as class sizes and course length. Many students are more engaged and successful in environments that allow them hands-on training and are less likely to leave the class with a shorter timeline to completion. After graduation, the difference in employment rates between Universities and Colleges and registered Private Career Colleges is minimal. Public Universities and Colleges report an average of 55.6% of their graduated students finding employment in their field after six months, and regulated career colleges report an average of 55% of their graduates working in their field after six months. While it is important to note that these stats do vary based on the schools you are looking at, there is one clear takeaway: you are not overlooking an opportunity by choosing a Private Career College, such as the Niagara and Halton Skilled Trades Academies.
Hands-on learning complete in just 17 weeks!
Public Universities and College training programs can take up to three years to complete. With the full-time programs offered at the Skilled Trades Academies, you can be completely G2 certified in just 17 short weeks. This short timeline is a result of the immersive and comprehensive, hands-on method of training. Students spend time in the classroom, and also spends a significant amount of time in the lab, learning and understanding the practical skills required to be successful in the workforce. This method of training gets students out of the classroom and into the field working faster. Graduates of such comprehensive programs are better equipped to take on the workforce, and we have seen a number of our graduates advance quickly in their career thanks to their expertise in their field.
Evening and weekend classes to make gas technician training fit with the busiest schedule.
We understand that for some students, a full-time daily class schedule simply is not realistic. This is why at the Niagara and Halton Skilled Trades Academies, we offer part-time format courses for our G3 and G2 training courses. Our part-time classes run for two evenings and one Saturday per week. These courses are offered at both of our campuses. Our part-time classes are no less immersive or hands-on than our full-time course content. In just 8 months time, students can be completely G2 certified and enter into the workforce. This part-time format makes training for a second career manageable. Students are able to continue to work a full-time job while studying part-time. The classes also run only a few nights per week, making it easier to reintegrate going back to school into your life. Having time off between classes eases the burden of returning to school and makes it less likely students will burn themselves out.
